After Breakfast Transfer to Tabo By Road which is 47 k/m From Kaza and takes 1:30 min. Tabo the ancient village which was founded in 996 AD, Tabo is situated on the left bank of river Spiti. Flanked on either side by hills, it is one of the most important Buddhist monasteries regarded by many as only next to the Tholing Gompa in Tibet. It is also known as the Ajanta of the Himalayas. Tabo is the largest monastic complex of Spiti which has since been declared a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.
This large monastic complex has nine temples, 23 `Chorten; a monks’ Chamber and Nuns’ Chamber Besides several caves and contemporary structures. On the way we will Visit Dhankar Monastery the fortified monastery overlooking the valley is a fine example of Spiti’s Traditional architecture.
