OVERVIEW
 
This is an easy trek going through mixed forests of Oak, Rhododendron and Deodar in the foothills of the Dhauladhar. On the way we visit several tribal villages. The trek offers added attraction for the bird watchers. Beautiful alpine meadows carpeted with flowers and medicinal plants, pasturelands, flocks of goats, sheep and wild birds and superb views from the passes make this a most wonderful route through a landscape dotted with many villages where we pause to meet the villagers and relax.
 
ITINERARY
 
DAY 01: McLeod ganj – Kareri Village (1870m) Trek/13km
The trek is goes through the pine forests and crosses several tribal villages on the way. Kareri is a Gaddi tribal village. Night stay in one of the village houses or in tents.
 
DAY 02: Kareri Village – Kareri Lake (3250m) Trek/14km
Trail goes through mixed forests of oak, rhododendron and pine. First 2 Km is a level walk and then there is sleep ascent along Kareri Nullah Stream which has to be crossed over a number of times over improvised wooden bridges. Night stay in tents at bank of Kareri Lake.
 
DAY 03: Kareri Lake – Bagga (2500 m) Trek/10 km
After a short ascent from the lake, is a steep descent through the forest to Bagga .Night stay in tents.
 
DAY 04: Bagga – Rawa Village (2100 m) Trek/10 km
The trail goes downhill through the forest. Rawa village is situated on the bank of Small River. Night stay in the village.
 
DAY 5: Rawa village – Guna mata/Ball Village (2400m) Trek/ 10km 
it is a steep ascent through the forest to Guna Devi Temple, situated in the middle of the forest. This area is bird watchers paradise. Night stay in temple complex or Ball village 2 km after Guna Devi temple.
 
DAY 6: Ball Village – Triund (2875m) Trek/13km
After 2 km level walk there is a steep ascent to Triund a flat meadow on the top of the ridge. From Triund panoramic view of the peaks of Dhauladhar on one side and the Kangra valley on the other is awe-inspiring. Night stay in tents or Private house.
 
DAY 7: Triund – Lahesh Cave (3500m) Trek/6Km
After a short ascent from Triund traverse a ridge to reach Laka Got a temporary shepherd camp. Laka Got is situated at the snout of small glacier, which is full of snow and ice in early summer, and the snow melts away during the monsoon. From Laka Got it is a sleep ascent for two km. Over rocky ridge to reach Lahesh Cave. Night stay in the cave or camp at Laka Got.
 
DAY 8: Laka Got – Mcleod Ganj Back Trek/13Km
Follow the same route on the way back or a different one from Triund going over a grassy meadow and descend down to Bhagsunag and then to Mcleodganj.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
 
Transport Options (Delhi  - Mcleod ganj - Delhi)
For travel to Mcleod ganj and back one can choose between air, rail & road. For air travel, the closest airport is the Gaggal DHM, also known as Kangra Airport, or Dharamsala Airport and is well connected to Delhi and other parts of the country by Kingfisher Red. 
 
There are frequent Public Transport buses including Volvos available from Delhi to Mcleodganj that cost about Rs. 550 - 900 per person. These buses depart from Majnu ka tilla every 30 mins. or so and take about 12 hrs to cover the distance. The same is also applicable on the return journey. A private vehicle could also be arranged for if you require the same.
 
 Weather Details
Summer in Mcleod ganj extends from March to June when the temperature variation is recorded to be ranging between 23°c and 27°c. Mercury sometimes reaches up to 38°c but never goes beyond that. During winters the temperature can drop to -1° and the maximum temperature hardly goes up to 20°c.
